Root Canal Therapy

Root canals are tiny passageways that branch off from the top of the tooth, coursing their way vertically downward, until they reach the tip of the root.  The canals contain the pulp made up of a nerve and blood vessel.  All teeth have between one and four root canals.

Many tooth problems involve irritation or infection that has spread to the pulp causing a host of problems including pain and sensitivity.
Root canal therapy is a remarkable treatment with a very high rate of success.  During a root canal the inner chamber of the tooth where the pulp is located is cleaned, shaped, and disinfected.  The canal is then sealed from the tip of the root to the crown.  Despite the bad reputation root canals often receive most patients report the procedure had the same discomfort as a simple filling.
